Yesterday, my mates and got some much-needed downtime. We had a few errands, but decided to make a day of it. After accepting the delivery of a new dishwasher (to take some pressure off me and lower the price-gouging water bill a little), we went out to a thrift store, two consignment shops, some pawn shops, and a couple of vintage media shops.

The previous day, one of my mates managed to repair my uncle's old turntable, and they've been wanting to get into collecting vinyl. I'm focusing on CDs and DVDs myself, but we can easily find places to get our physical media together. So, we hit up the two local Goodwill shops, where we picked up a couple of records. Another nearby pawn shop resulted in another couple of records picked up, but I didn't trust their CDs, so I skipped out on a couple chances of my own.

The other pawn shops resulted in nothing, though we found some neat stuff to look at. The first record store was great as well, but didn't have anything I wanted (and are a little expensive for their CDs). The second record store, which was in the next town over?

BINGO!

My mates picked up a few records, but I managed to get four CDs for my collection at a decent price. I'd recently encountered the group Daughty on local radio (I don't watch American Idol, which their lead won at some point), and this store had two of their albums on CD. I also managed to pick up a pair of Electric Light Orchestra albums, totaling $20 for my stuff. They also have a decent selection of CDs in general, so I wanna go back at some point when I have some spendable money for that sort of thing.

Still on the hunt for Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails albums, among others, but I've got more to listen to now. I also need to get some CD-Rs to burn my digital-only purchases to at some point, just for the backups (and maybe listening on a CD deck).

After the last several months, we really needed that time out together to just relax.
