So, thanks to one of my partners, I've found out about Microsoft's latest bit of bad: forcefully reverting user defaults back to Edge if you don't do exactly what they want, via a driver. The "User Choice Protection Driver" will just look at your settings, and if you've set it outside of Microsoft approved methods, back it goes to Edge without your consent.

I... The fact that they called it "User Choice Protection Driver" is just a slap in the face. They knew what they were doing, and they knew they were putting up a middle finger toward users in the process. It's embarrassing, seeing what Microsoft has become since Satya Nadella took over. Windows 8 was bad, but Windows 10 and 11 are just steadily getting more user hostile with every update.

This is why people want to stick with Windows 7. This is why people are moving to MacOS and Linux. This is why people are wanting alternatives.

This is why I'm sticking with my older OSes. Windows 7 being End-of-Life became a good thing in some ways.

My laptop, my software. It's not a rental.

I'm trying hard to keep my Win 10 laptop from updating _ever_ but it has slipped in at least two. Right now, once again, I have the option to Install Updates, Install Updates or Sleep. So I choose Sleep and unplug. I don't think the God Mode shortcuts to useful options (for Win 7) is working. I tried turning off anything that looked like an automatic update but they keep sneaking in.
