Twitter, and new phone

First of all, I heard about the next stage of Twitter's downfall, and I'm not surprised. The rate limiting is pretty much death throes at this point. But without a comfortable alternative to go to, many still won't move over. There's also inertia, and the whole name-n-shame that some in the Fediverse tend to do to try and force people to leave (it doesn't work), but in general, no everyone feels like moving would do them good. Given time, they will, but it will take time.

In more personal news, I now have a Moto G Power from 2022 as my phone and... It's nice. I still won't use it for much, but I have a phone again, and access to my 2FA tokens. It's also been handling the DoorDash thing that killed my previous phone, and doing so quite well. So yay.

So real talk here. IS there a Mastodon instance that I can get into, that allows NSFW content including stories, images, sex toys, and "taboo" topics, that's LGBT+ friendly, and where I'm not going to be spit on for wanting to sell/shill those things, for being the wrong kind of person in some way, or for being clueless and new and never having used this before? If so I'm willing to give it a try, but I am VERY TIRED and I'm not really enthused about the "next new thing" being an *old* thing. I mean, DW is nice and all, but it's *not* where I'm going to be able to market my stuff, it doesn't have any particular reach or mass appeal, and I don't see any evidence that Mastodon does either.

Yeah, Mastodon is a bit of a clusterfuck on that subject. Like, I'm pretty sure blimps.xyz and rubber.social would be fine with a majority of it, and probably yiff.life as well (haven't used that one personally). I know rubber.social has this in their sign-up rules:

Use the #promo hashtag on ads or commercial posts. We're excited for kink vendors to participate in our community. That said we'd like to keep it more of a flea market than a mall. So that users can easily identify them: posts promoting goods and/or services must use the #promo hashtag.

That said... I'm with you on not being enthusiastic about the Fediverse. I left after the multiple Twitter exoduses (and people freaking out about Meta trying to integrate with it) have kinda rendered it mostly unusable with my mental health issues. I just don't know what would be good as an alternative in that space, outside of maybe Itaku, Cohost, or Pillowfort.

Cohost's nsfw rules looked...dodgy and like they hadn't thought them through, last time I peeked in. Itaku I'm not familiar with. Pillowfort's policies seem okay, though they ban *some* of my content but at least are clear about where the lines lie, but getting following there takes being active, joining communities, and spending a lot of social spoons, you can't just upload to your own blog and have people find you, unlike say putting stuff on FA, where there's always a chance to grab new eyeballs every time, so it really doesn't work for me unless it becomes my one and only option.

I do appreciate the Mastodon recs, though, thanks very much! (Given some of the plushes I make, I suspect a rubber focused group might really like some of my work!) I should probably at least give it a try, but again, social spoons. Learning a whole new system and a whole new set of social/cultural expectations is so exhausting!

Yeah, Masto can take some getting used-to. Feditips has quite a bit of documentation to help out with that, but the biggest tip I can give you is this: tag your posts consistently there. Not only for people wanting to filter things out, but because people can follow a hashtag, much like they could with Tweetdeck. Having that consistency can really help with discoverability on the platform.

Also, I'm with you about the social spoons aspect. I've been borrowing into the next decade as of late, and really wish more people would have flocked to other art sites (Weasyl, InkBunny, and Sofurry being the big ones). Seeing so many retreat into Telegram chats and Discord servers kinda hurt, especially with how much it takes out of me just opening Discord on a good day. At least with art sites, I can upload through something like Postybirb, and handle comments when I'm not as worn out.

Yep, Postybirb is the only reason I bother to engage with smaller art sites like Weasyl. I get a favorite or comment there like... twice a month, tops? It wouldn't be worth the effort if I had to do that separately. But although I *can* put things up on pillowfort with postybirb, nobody sees those unless they're already following me, so it's shouting into the void of my like... two active followers who both also are on my discord. It's beyond pointless.
