Phone dead'd... and 2FA rant
Jun. 29th, 2023 11:09 pm So... Battery came in for my phone. When my mate was using it for DoorDash runs, it overheated, and just...didn't come back up. New battery arrived, and it's very much a damaged charging circuit. It might be repairable, but given my need for a phone for multiple reasons (including 2FA...), my uncle ended up buying me one on the cheap from BestBuy. Goodbye, Samsung Galaxy S5. You were a good piece of equipment while you lasted.
And let me just say, being locked out of so many things due to not having access to my 2FA auth app is beyond frustrating. Once I'm able to have full access to everything, I'm switching to a solution that will let me use multiple devices as a 2FA hub, because I'm not being bitten by this crap again. I learned my lesson about not using 2FA (and how useless it can be), and I've learned my lesson about relying on a single point of failure when I should have had other options.
Just remember, kids: KeePassXC allows you to add TOTP/2FA tokens to a password entry. And it's completely portable between desktop/laptop OSes and Android. Do yourself a favor and go with a solution like that.
