Broken Apple Magic Keyboard
May. 5th, 2024 10:26 pmWhelp! Went to turn on my Apple Magic Keyboard 1 today. Put in fresh batteries, hit the button, paired it, and started typing. Suddenly, nothing. No connection, no status light, nothing. I pull the batteries and test them in another device: they're fine. I use other known working batteries in the keyboard: nothing. Just nothing. So, I'm pretty sure the poor thing finally went pop somewhere, and I can't repair it.
Bought it as an eBay special a while back, so I'm not too miffed. Unfortunately, it's a Japanese layout keyboard—which I happen to like—and I can't find any replacements right now. Maybe I'll just drop a bit on a cheap keyboard, or find an Apple A1016 wireless keyboard to use and paired with an A1015 mouse for the hell of it. Don't quite know just yet.
At least it was for my MacBook Pro, and that has a built-in keyboard. My Logitech K240 died not too long ago on my gaming rig, and that required a bit more of a priority replacement. The Onn wireless keyboard and mouse combo I got has been great, and it uses chiclet keys which I like, but that's a Windows layout keyboard, so not really a good fit for my MacBook Pro.
Ughhh... Gotta love technology sometimes.
