So, I mentioned a little while ago that I was tempted to try running Windows Vista as my daily driver OS. I'm sitting here with my Vista VM, screwing around with the setup, and I realized that it's completely possible for me to do just that.

Basilisk/UXP from Roytam1 is what I'd use for the browser, and probably IceDove or BinOc Interlink for the mail/RSS/Newsgroup client. There's Chatzilla and a few other options for IRC, Pidgin for XMPP, and Discord works in Basilisk, so I'm amazingly covered there. Office 2007 and LibreOffice/OpenOffice work, Notepad++ is lovely, and I can even install Scrivener. I also have Adobe CS3 for a number of things. Not to mention the games I could install, and both Quest and Inform work, so I can make IF games as well. No Twine 2.x, but 1.x works, and that's what I use on my MacOS install.

Now I'm sorely tempted to do this, just because it would be fun in my mind. I love Vista's UI as much as I do Snow Leopard, and while I used Vista, I never did so as my main OS. And I can do so on my MacBook Pro since Boot Camp handles it, along with full support from Parallels when I'm in MacOS. Hell, I think Vista would effectively be period correct for this model as well...

... Fugit, I'm making some backups and getting things set up for an install while I eat breakfast. We'll see how it goes, and if it maybe helps my writer's bluck.

Edit: Well, I would, if I had a usable Vista DVD. That'll have to come later.
