Distractions

solon_kittenSo, I discovered something over the last couple of days.
I've discovered that Windows distracts me with notifications constantly, even when using Focus Assist. Notifications love to steal focus, even when the application they're from is in the background. (Looking at you, Discord.) And when updates are available, it threatens me with a reboot, sometimes while I'm in the middle of working on something.
I've discovered that Fedora Linux in general still distracts me for several reasons. Update nags, focus-stealing notifications, the constant need to tweak and change things... I can't focus, even when in a terminal. I tried... I honestly tried.
On MacOS 10.6.8, I don't have to deal with those notifications, or update nags, or anything else for that matter. I can open Scrivener, work, and not worry about anything. I have automated incremental backups made to a network storage device without needing a Pro version (Windows), or dealing with Git/version control systems made for code (Linux). I can just work.
On top of that, I need an actual writing tool like Scrivener to work in these days. Having to spread things out across multiple applications (like I would in Linux at the moment) frustrates me, and becomes just as much of a distraction as everything else. Zim for notetaking, LibreOffice/Calligra for writing (or Kile for LaTeX), Dia for mind-mapping, pandoc for converting the resulting file to other formats... The list goes on.
On my MacBook Pro, all I need is Scrivener, and Scapple to occasionally visualize a flow of events, but that's all. Scrivener handles everything I really need, and while some open-source applications are starting to get into that particular space, none of them are where I need them to be for use.
Just... The more I understand about stuff like this, the less I get frustrated with myself over such things.
