Dead laptop battery, and website things

solon_kittenWhelp! The main battery for my Dell Latitude E6430 has failed, so that laptop is currently in "desktop only" mode until I can get it replaced. Or rather, it would be if I hadn't pilfered the SSD from it to use elsewhere. Since I use my MacBook the most anyway, I might as well put that drive where it'll be useful, which is in one of my drive enclosures for holding backups.
In other news, I've been working on a few things behind the scenes. The story archive page on my website is going to eventually get an overhaul, removing the blog for an actual archive page. This page will also be HTML4, so many older browsers will be able to actually render it, unlike the pelican blog that currently resides there. Plus, this'll give me a chance to create some scripts to automate the process of altering the page if I really wanna go that route. It'd be nice to get the rust off of my Perl scripting skills again (pun unintended), and given it's been years since I wrote those types of things, I'd like to try and go back down that route again.
I also eventually want to set up a basic wiki-esque thing to help me make certain notes about my story universe public and accessible, without making it publicly editable. Spam has become such a huge problem as of late across the entire internet, from newsgroup servers being overwhelmed with spam from Google Groups, to constant spam accounts being made on various wikis I use, and so on. I'd rather not have to deal with it if I can avoid it.
Eventually, I also want to do some other things, but that'll come later. VRML would be a great thing to play with, for example. Just need to get a retro setup to support it.
